The Sift will be Minecraft’s first new dimension since The End in 2011. It launches today, September 29, 2026, in Minecraft Dungeons II and is planned for Java and Bedrock in 2027, according to Xbox Wire.
What happened?
At Minecraft LIVE on September 26, Mojang presented The Sift as the fourth official dimension alongside the Overworld, the Nether and The End. The action spin-off is the first game where players can enter it.
In Dungeons II the Overworld starts to tear. Souls drift across the map, new enemies appear and rifts lead into the Sift. Named biomes include Meadows and Carapace. Hazardous blocks, a liquid called icor and mobs such as the blub appear in the spin-off. Not all of them are confirmed for classic Minecraft.
Why it matters
For 15 years Minecraft’s cosmology stopped at three worlds. The Sift is a parallel plane with its own look, hazards and physics. Dungeons II creative director Måns Olson told GameSpot the team wanted a calmer tone than the Nether or the End.
Jens Bergensten (jeb_) has said each dimension needs a functional reason to exist. That is why The Sift arrives first in the dungeon crawler.
What changes in practice
Anyone who wants The Sift today plays Minecraft Dungeons II on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. In 2027, Java and Bedrock are expected to receive the fourth dimension.
