The Fable Season 2 premieres in January 2027 on Nippon TV. Monday's announcement arrived alongside a teaser trailer for the Yamaoka arc, described by Japanese producers as the franchise's biggest storyline yet.
What happened?
The Fable Season 2 had already been confirmed back in April 2026, but a release window was missing. Now fans have a date to mark: a January 2027 debut in Japan, keeping the same creative core from the first season and trading the everyday comedy tone for full-blown conspiracy in a new PV.
The first season aired from April to September 2024 and streamed on Disney+. Katsuhisa Minami's manga, serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine, has surpassed 30 million copies sold. The franchise also inspired two live-action films starring Junichi Okada.
What is The Fable?
Akira Satō is a legendary hitman nicknamed 'The Fable.' Trained since childhood, he can eliminate any target in six seconds flat. The twist subverts the usual tropes: his boss orders Akira to live a normal life in Taihei for a whole year without killing anyone. The comedy and suspense stem entirely from this restriction.
What the teaser shows
The Fable Season 2 PV opens with everyday life in Taihei before quickly shifting the mood. We see Akira, Yōko Satō, Takeshi Ebihara, the Boss, and Hiroshi Hamada. Yōko mentions spotting people from the organization and brings up a man named Yamaoka. Sunaoka is also seen in motion, alongside Matsu looking like he knows way too much.
Simply put, the Yamaoka arc is where the hitman's 'forced vacation' stops being just weird daily routines and escalates into a high-stakes conspiracy.

Why The Fable Season 2 matters
The Fable isn't a power-scaling shonen. It's a seinen about a lethal professional trying desperately not to use his only skill. The Fable Season 2 will test whether this premise still holds up once the organization comes knocking on his door again.
An international streaming window has not yet been confirmed. While the first season dropped on Disney+, a new licensing agreement should surface closer to the premiere.
