The Boxer becomes an anime with Koki Uchiyama, Kensho Ono, and Tomokazu Seki

The webtoon The Boxer is becoming a TV anime. The announcement came on October 8 at the Crunchyroll Showcase during New York Comic Con 2026, with a main cast, studios, and a special trailer.

JH's Korean series began on NAVER WEBTOON in 2019 and reached LINE Manga in Japan between 2020 and 2022. According to Crank In!, the title had more than 1.06 billion views worldwide as of September 2026 and won the main prize at the WORLD WEBTOON AWARDS in 2024. An anime premiere date has not been given.

Cast and studios

The announced main cast brings together Koki Uchiyama, Kensho Ono, Tomokazu Seki, and Toshiyuki Toyonaga. The coverage consulted did not assign roles. Animation is by breccia, a new studio founded by Munenori Ogasawara, a founding member of Kinema Citrus, in coproduction with Korean studio STUDIO JEMI, which has already worked with Kinema Citrus on Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez. The cited creative producer is BLUE RIGHTS.

The story follows Yu, a boy who takes beatings in alleys without fighting back, and K, a legendary trainer looking for a final disciple. In the ring, Yu is treated as a “monster” whose strength confronts champions defined by technique or effort. The special trailer is on Crunchyroll's channel: The Boxer | Special Promo Trailer.

Part of a webtoon slate

On the same panel, HAYATE, LINE Digital Frontier (a WEBTOON Entertainment subsidiary), and Crunchyroll announced a coproduction to adapt about 15 selected webtoon titles, with HAYATE leading development and Crunchyroll exclusively streaming the results in selected territories. Besides The Boxer, the showcase brought art and a trailer for The Remarried Empress and a teaser for Teenage Mercenary. Fan posts on X cited a 2027 debut and J.C.STAFF for the latter; Animation Magazine's write-up did not confirm those details.
