TGS 2026 Wraps Up with 257,642 Visitors and Confirms 2027 Dates

CESA, the organizer of the Tokyo Game Show, has announced the official wrap-up of its historic 30th-anniversary edition: over four days of physical events, TGS 2026 welcomed 257,642 visitors to the Makuhari Messe and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall. The fifth day, September 21, was previously canceled due to the approach of Typhoon 25.

What Happened?

The convention kicked off on September 17 as the first five-day TGS in history, marking its 30th anniversary. Due to the cancellation of the Monday holiday, the physical run was condensed to four days. CESA released the daily breakdown:

  • September 17 (business): 53,630
  • September 18 (business): 52,545
  • September 19 (public): 78,678
  • September 20 (public): 72,789

The total fell 5,459 people short of the 2025 edition (263,101). Even so, CESA highlighted a record-breaking international turnout: 1,138 companies and entities from 53 countries and regions, surpassing last year's numbers.

What is Still Happening Online

On Monday, September 21, the physical doors at Makuhari remain closed. However, official streams are live: the Red Bull Revenge Street Fighter 6 showmatch (10:30 AM–1:10 PM JST) and the closing stage (3:00 PM–3:30 PM JST), alongside exhibitor livestreams. Details and archives remain available on the official TGS website.

TGS 2027 Dates Confirmed

The next edition is scheduled for September 16 to 20, 2027, once again at Makuhari Messe—running from Thursday to Monday. This means the five-day format is set to return, hopefully without typhoon interruptions.

Why This Matters

TGS 2026 served as the stage for major announcements that Geekiki covered throughout the week: Japan Game Awards Future Division, playable demos for Persona 4 Revival and FF7 Revelation, Ace Combat 8, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and dozens of ports and remakes. Closing the cycle with official visitor numbers and next year's dates helps measure the event's scale following the one-day cut and aids planning for 2027.

On the business front, CESA recorded 3,673 meetings through its matching system—the highest volume in the convention's history. Online, 25 official programs were broadcast across YouTube, X, Twitch, Niconico, DouYu, Bilibili, and IGN.
