The Teenage Mercenary anime (Iphak Yongbyeong), the manhwa by YC and Rakyeon, received a teaser, a visual and its main staff on October 8. The series premieres in 2027, with no month locked, and Crunchyroll will simulcast it, according to the announcement at New York Comic Con.
Hayate is producing, with animation by J.C.STAFF. Manabu Ono, of Dead Mount Death Play, directs and handles series composition. Koji Haneda, of The Faraway Paladin, designs the characters. The score is by Hiroyuki Sawano, known for Solo Leveling and Attack on Titan. The teaser and visual appeared on Crunchyroll News and on the adaptation's official account.
From webtoon to high school
The comic has run on Naver Webtoon since November 7, 2020, and on Line Webtoon in English since 2021. Ijin Yu loses his parents in a plane crash at eight, survives as a child mercenary and, ten years later, returns to Korea for his last year of high school. The contrast is the core: school routine replaces the battlefield without erasing what he learned in order to stay alive.
The adaptation itself is not new. It was announced on June 19, 2025. What changes now is the 2027 window, the studio, the staff and the Crunchyroll license. There is still no voice cast, opening or episode date.
On Line Manga in Japan, the title was the most popular in 2023 and 2024. In 2023 it generated about 100 million yen, the platform's highest revenue that year, according to the entry that consolidates those figures.
