Lezhin Entertainment launched on October 19, 2026, Lezhin's Teaz, an AI character chat service based on official webtoon intellectual properties from the Bomtoon and Lezhin Comics platforms, initially available in South Korea.
What happened?
Previously announced on October 12, Lezhin's Teaz allows users to converse directly with characters from original series. Fans can participate by taking on the role of one of the characters or interacting from a third-person perspective. Conversations begin at specific points in the original work.
The core differentiator is "relational dialogue": characters' responses and the flow of the relationship change according to the user's words and choices. Unlike traditional webtoon reading, where the reader follows the author's fixed narrative, in Teaz the conversation influences the story's development.
Features and plans
The service uses only officially licensed IPs with verified rights, building characters and worlds based on content approved by the original creators to maintain personality consistency. It includes gamified elements, such as the ability to collect hidden illustrations and items created by the original artists themselves.
The initial launch is a web version, with a mobile app planned later. Additional features, including a text-based RPG mode and alternative universes (AU), will be introduced gradually. Expansion to other languages, such as English, has not yet been confirmed.
Why it matters
Lezhin's Teaz represents the growing trend of webtoon and manga platforms using AI to increase reader engagement, allowing direct interaction with official characters instead of passive consumption. The emphasis on licensed IPs and creator approval differentiates it from generic chatbots. Parent company KidariStudio stated it will continue expanding media offerings by combining content IPs with technology.
