The Steam Frame Steam Survey of October 2026 shows that Valve's headset already occupies more than 4% of the VR market on Steam, surpassing PlayStation VR2 and consolidating a strong start after its September launch.
What happened?
According to the latest Steam Hardware Survey data, the Valve Steam Frame jumped from about 0.41% in September to 4.13% in October 2026. This places it ahead of the PSVR2 (2.41%) and other headsets such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift S. The Meta Quest 3 remains the leader with over 27%. The growth of more than 3 percentage points in one month is the largest among listed devices.
The headset, launched on September 14, 2026, works as a standalone device with SteamOS on an Arm chip and also streams games from a PC via a Wi-Fi 6E adapter. The 256 GB model costs $1,059 and includes Half-Life: Alyx. Sales continue through a reservation system, with deliveries expected by December 2026 or in 2027 for part of the queue. Valve has already released software updates improving battery efficiency by up to 12%.
Why does this matter?
The rapid growth in the Steam Frame Steam Survey shows that Valve's bet on a wireless headset focused on Steam and streaming is gaining traction among PC players. In a market dominated by Meta, the Steam Frame already surpasses Sony's headset in the Steam ecosystem, indicating strong interest from those who already have a game library on the platform. This reinforces Valve's strategy of proprietary hardware integrated into its ecosystem.
What changes in practice?
For those in the reservation queue, the data confirms that the product is reaching users and generating real usage. Valve continues to improve the software, with updates to battery efficiency and streaming. There is still no official confirmation of an OLED version, although kernel code indicates development of a higher-resolution model. PC players with a Steam library now have a stronger native VR option in the platform ranking.
