Steam Achievement Sets: Valve launches beta to organize achievements on Steam

What happened?

Valve announced the beta of Steam Achievement Sets on the Steam client. The new feature allows developers to group a game's achievements into organized sets, such as single-player campaign, multiplayer or DLC.

Each set has its own progress bar. Upon completing all achievements in a set, the player receives a "set complete" trophy on their profile. Completion is preserved even if new achievements are added later.

Why is this important?

Modern games receive updates, DLCs and seasons for years. Previously, new achievements could "break" the 100% of players who had already completed the game. Steam Achievement Sets solve this by separating base game progress from additional content.

DLC sets only appear for owners of the content and use purple color, while base sets use blue. There is also support for seasonal sets that can be archived.

What changes in practice?

Players can compare progress with up to three friends, see overall summary and filter by sets. The achievements page has been updated with global stats and improved search.

Several games already support the feature in beta, including Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Crusader Kings III, DREDGE and others. Developers have new tools in Steamworks to create and manage sets in bulk.

The feature is available in the Steam client beta. Valve is expected to expand support in the coming weeks.
