Steam Achievement Sets enters beta: Valve lets developers group achievements and protect 100% status

Valve has started the beta of Steam Achievement Sets, a new way to organize, track and complete game achievements on the platform. The official announcement was made on October 15, 2026 on Steam News.

Games today live longer than ever, receiving updates through DLC, expansions and seasons. Achievements added later can be hard to discover and, worse, break the completion status of players who already had 100% on the base game.

What changes

Developers can group related achievements into sets. Each set has its own progress bar. Completing a set awards a "set complete" trophy on the profile, and that mark is preserved even if new achievements are added later.

  • Base Game sets: achievements available to everyone, shown in blue.
  • DLC sets: only count for those who bought the extra content, displayed in purple, and do not affect overall progress until the DLC is acquired.

There is also the ability to archive achievements or entire sets — useful for seasonal events or achievements that are no longer possible. Those who already unlocked them still see them; those who didn't are not blocked from progress.

The achievements page has been redesigned, with comparison against up to three friends, including DLC sets and rare ones. Games played via Family Sharing now appear in lists and allow comparison.

Games that already support it

Initial titles include Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Forza Horizon 5, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, PowerWash Simulator, DREDGE, Crusader Kings 3 and others. More should be added as developers adopt the tools.

The beta is available in the Steam Client beta for players and developers. Those who want to test need to enable client beta participation.
