Galactic Racer, the new Star Wars arcade racer, launches on October 6, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with a strong review wave for a franchise racing game — a genre Lucasfilm had not revisited in a new title since Racer Revenge in 2002.
What the scores say
IGN published its Galactic Racer review on October 2. Secondary roundups, including Gagadget, assign IGN an 8/10 and cite Metacritic averages of 88 on PS5, 86 on Xbox and 82 on PC. VGC scored it 5/5 and Game Informer 8.5. Those aggregates come from outlets, not a Lucasfilm statement, and can move as more reviews land.
IT Home also picked up IGN's 8 and the October 6 window this week.
What the game is
Galactic Racer is the first title from Fuse Games, a studio with Criterion veterans, the team behind Burnout. Secret Mode and Lucasfilm Games publish it. The campaign is a racing roguelite: each tour is a fresh run, with no mid-race restart. You play Shade, a pilot who enters the underground Galactic League to challenge champion Kestar Bool after the fall of the Empire.
There are customizable vehicle classes beyond classic podracers and an explorable space off the track. The Verge described the feel as the closest a recent game has come to piloting a podracer.
What still weighs on it
Repeated caveats in Galactic Racer reviews are a short planet list, which can make tracks feel repetitive, and online-only multiplayer. IGN called the lack of planets the core weakness. Reception praises pace and presentation; it does not lock in a guaranteed classic.
