Squad comes to consoles in 2027: free PS5 alpha starts tomorrow

Offworld Industries announced on Thursday (October 15) that the tactical shooter Squad will come to consoles: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, with a planned launch in 2027.

To mark the announcement, the developer opened a free alpha preview exclusive to PS5, starting tomorrow (October 16) and running until October 25. Players will be able to test the game in a confrontation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the People's Liberation Army of China on the Gorodok map.

Console content and features

At launch, the console version will have AAS, RAAS, Invasion, and Fireteam modes, plus six maps (Al Basrah, Fallujah, Mutaha, Narva, Yehorivka, and Gorodok) and eight factions. PvP matches support up to 100 players.

The adaptation includes a radial wheel for commands and pings, aim assist, and proximity voice. Optional crossplay between consoles and with PC community servers that adopt console rules. Mods remain exclusive to PC at launch.

Performance targets: 4K/60 fps (with dynamic upscaling) on PS5 and Xbox Series X; 1440p/30 fps on Series S. There will be no mouse and keyboard or cross-progression.

Steam players can claim the free Recon Team Pack (USMC weapon skins) until October 25.
