Sound! Euphonium Final Movie Hits Japanese Cinemas Today, Ending 11-Year Era

Sound! Euphonium reaches its grand finale today. Part 2 of Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie premieres this Friday, September 11, 2026, in Japanese cinemas, concluding over a decade of the Kitauji High School concert band's story, produced by Kyoto Animation.

What is happening today

The Japanese title is Saishuu Gakushou Hibike! Euphonium — Kouhen ("Final Chapter, Part 2"). Distributed by Shochiku across roughly 200 theaters with a runtime of 127 minutes. The official Sound! Euphonium website confirms the date, describing the film as the definitive conclusion to the series about teenagers dedicated to the brass band.

This is not just a compilation of TV Season 3. Kyoto Animation reworked cuts, and scriptwriter Jukki Hanada penned brand-new scenes, including performances not seen in the TV anime.

What Part 2 is about

After advancing through the Kansai tournament, the Kitauji band reaches the cultural festival and prepares for nationals. The core conflict explores the clash between "playing for everyone to have fun"—championed by Mayu Kuroe—and the school's strict meritocracy of "equal technical proficiency for all."

Kumiko Oumae (Tomoyo Kurosawa), Reina Kousaka (Chika Anzai), and Mayu (Haruka Tomatsu) return to the original voice cast. Tatsuya Ishihara serves as chief director, with Taichi Ogawa directing. Character design by Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda, with music by Akito Matsuda.

Why Sound! Euphonium matters now

Hibike! Euphonium is one of Kyoto Animation's signature franchises, praised for its realism in sheet music, instrument handling, and school club life without falling into soap-opera tropes. Bringing this to a theatrical close with extra scenes and a fresh mix makes it an official grand finale rather than a disposable recap.

The Part 2 soundtrack, Sound Will Join, drops on the same day. It features background music, band arrangements, and the theme song ReCoda (The Final Movie Ver.), performed by TRUE alongside the Kitauji Concert Band. Digital streaming begins at midnight on September 12 in Japan.

What this means for international fans

No international streaming or theatrical release date outside of Japan has been confirmed yet. Fans following Sound! Euphonium globally will likely need to wait for festival runs or later licensing announcements, following KyoAni's recent release patterns. Part 1 premiered in Japan on April 24, 2026.
