At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Koei Tecmo and SpiralAI unveiled SophieChat:AI, an AI-powered chat RPG set in the universe of Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream. The announcement took place on the publisher's stage, with pre-registrations now open in Japan for iOS and Android devices.
What happened?
The app follows in the footsteps of RyzaChat:AI, which launched recently featuring the character Ryza. In SophieChat:AI, players can chat directly with Sophie Neuenmüller, journey through Erde Wiege, perform alchemy, jump into battles, or simply hang out and talk. Original voice actress Yuka Aisaka (相坂優歌) showcased a development build live on stage and recorded the voice lines used for the synthesis. Artist NOCO, responsible for Sophie's iconic character design in the games, is directly supervising the app's expressions and outfits.
How does the AI fit in?
This is not a generic image generator. According to the official website as well as coverage from Automaton and Denfaminicogamer, the project maintains the same commitment as RyzaChat: hand-drawn illustrations with zero AI-generated art, strictly supervised by NOCO. The voice is derived exclusively from authorized recordings of Aisaka. Dialogue is powered by a language model trained on official scenarios and data that SpiralAI states is fully licensed. A portion of the revenue goes back to supporting illustrators and voice actors.
In practical terms, players can choose to communicate via text, voice, or even an intimate ASMR mode. Sophie's tone is designed to stay true to the game series: curious, talkative, and completely focused on alchemy.
Why does this matter?
The Atelier franchise is one of Gust's most character-driven IPs. An official chat app featuring original voice acting and official art styles is a bold attempt to bring the heroine to mobile devices without turning her visual design into an AI-generated pastiche. At the same time, the format remains divisive among fans: some see it as a responsible and ethical use of language models, while others would prefer the character to remain strictly within traditional JRPGs.
What hasn't been confirmed yet?
There is currently no global release date or English localization announced. The pre-registration phase revealed this Friday is restricted to residents in Japan. Furthermore, SophieChat:AI should not be viewed as a substitute for Atelier Sophie 2—it is a chat and open-scenario app, not a full mainline crafting RPG.
