Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly sent partners a larger-than-usual survey on ending PlayStation discs for new games from January 2028.
What was reported
Moore's Law is Dead said contacts described a questionnaire bigger than almost any prior Sony survey, with an indirect question about issues selling games physically. GamesIndustry.biz and Eurogamer carried the claim. Eurogamer noted there is no other public evidence and asked Sony to confirm.
July context
In July SIE said new games after January 2028 would be digital-only. Press figures put full-game units at about 78–80% digital last fiscal year. Pre-cutoff titles can still be reprinted.
CFO Lin Tao said Sony would move “cautiously” and saw no business hit. Physical specialists such as Iam8bit, Lost in Cult and PM Studios still criticized the shift. Hideo Kojima also spoke publicly about physical media.
What this does not prove
A survey is not an official reversal. Any pace change or exception for titles such as The Witcher 4 remains speculation.
