CONFIRMED: SEGA has celebrated the Sonic X Shadow Generations milestone by announcing that the game's sales have surpassed 3 million units worldwide. The announcement came from the official Sonic the Hedgehog account on X on October 26, 2026, together with new celebratory artwork, close to the game's second anniversary.
The figure reflects an expanded re-release, not a brand-new game: Sonic X Shadow Generations revisits Sonic Generations and adds a new Shadow campaign that runs parallel to the base game. According to SEGA, as cited by Noisy Pixel, Shadow's stages are entirely new, and the story puts him face to face with his past, with the Time Eater and Black Doom at the center of the conflict.
Where the game is available
The title launched on October 25, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and reached Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. Its reported sales had already passed 2 million units in January 2025.
Players who already own the game can also find the pack inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film, which takes Shadow to present-day Shibuya, voiced by Keanu Reeves. It shows what kept the game going after launch: the original package plus a new Shadow campaign, rather than a straight remaster.
For players, the 3 million mark works as a thermometer: two years on, a re-release with new Shadow content is still selling — and SEGA chose to celebrate that with new art, not with a sequel announcement.
