Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 at Snapdragon Summit 2026 on September 22. They are the company's first 2 nm mobile SoCs and the first phone CPUs Qualcomm says have hit 5 GHz.
What happened?
Both chips use an Oryon CPU with two Prime cores up to 5.0 GHz and six Performance cores up to 4.0 GHz, 16 MB FlexCache, a new Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU. On Extreme, Qualcomm claims +13% CPU, +44% GPU and +35% NPU versus the 8 Elite Gen 5, with 40% better GPU efficiency. The standard SKU sits a step below (+10% CPU, +35% GPU, +14% NPU).
Extreme records 8K at 60 fps and 4K at 240 fps, has a larger NPU shared memory pool and Adreno Neural Fusion matrix cores for super resolution and frame generation. The modem is the X105, with up to 14.8 Gbps downlink and 5G NR-NTN readiness. HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi are slated to ship devices on the platforms.
Why it matters
Qualcomm pitches Extreme as an on-device agentic AI chip: the Sensing Hub learns routines locally and the NPU can run MoE models around 30 billion parameters, the company says. It is Android's answer to Apple's A20 Pro on 2 nm.
