The experimental open-source PlayStation 5 emulator SharpEmu took a visible step: of 55 games tested, 12 reach gameplay and six are classed as playable at 60 FPS. Public build 0.0.4-release.2 landed on September 25, 2026, according to Notebookcheck and sharpemu.app.
What happened?
The six 60 FPS titles are Dreaming Sarah, Tetris Forever, Void Terrarium, New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Hoa and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. The team uses a conservative definition of playable: none has been finished start to finish, and even 60 FPS runs can show graphic or audio glitches.
The build adds Vulkan improvements, extra SPIR-V shader translator instructions, CPU fixes and more Vulkan extensions. SharpEmu is written in C# and runs on Windows, Linux and macOS.
Why it matters
The PS5 library exceeds 9,000 games. Six titles at 60 FPS are a tiny slice. Demanding 3D games such as Demon's Souls, Astro Bot and Grand Theft Auto V remain far from playable. The milestone is incremental, not a compatibility leap.
In practice
For emulation watchers, Vulkan shaders and CPU work are moving, but PS5 hardware is still a hard target. There is no realistic expectation of AAA at 60 FPS at this stage.
