Shangri-La Frontier Season 3: Jan 10 Release & 6-Month Run

Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 has an official release date: January 10, 2027. The anime's official website confirmed on Wednesday (16) that the new season will air in the Sunday 5 PM timeslot in Japan (across MBS, TBS, and 26 other stations) for two consecutive cours without a break—delivering roughly six months of continuous episodes.

What happened?

Alongside the release date, the Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 project dropped a striking new key visual featuring the slogan “Konton ga Hazeru” (“Chaos Explodes”). The artwork showcases protagonist Rakurō Hizutome (No Face) in cosplay at the Global Game Competition (GGC), alongside fellow gamers and their respective VRMMO avatars: Cursed Prison, Clock Fire, Silver Jumper, and Yggdryad.

The main cast from previous seasons is set to return. At studio C2C, Toshiyuki Kubooka continues as chief director, Hiro Ōki directs, Naoki Kotani serves as assistant director, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handles series composition. Ayumi Kurashima returns for character designs, with music once again composed by MONACA. Crunchyroll will stream the new season.

What does this mean?

The first two seasons also spanned two cours each. Maintaining this long-format structure for Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 ensures that the game festival arc and subsequent events get plenty of room to breathe rather than being cut short. For fans following Ryōsuke Fuji's manga (based on Katarina's web novel), this confirms that the anime is sticking to its traditional extended TV run rather than cutting down to isolated 12-episode blocks.

Two consecutive cours typically mean around 24 to 26 episodes, following the exact pattern of Seasons 1 and 2. While an exact episode count hasn't been locked in, the editorial message is clear: this arc will not be rushed.

In practice

For international fans watching via Crunchyroll, Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 is set to arrive in the Winter 2027 anime season. Meanwhile, the franchise video game, Shangri-La Frontier ~Nanatsu no Saikyō-shu~ (The Seven Colossi), developed by Netmarble Nexus, is still slated for release on mobile and PC.

Free family shows featuring series mascots are also scheduled across Japan starting October 25, though this remains a local event and won't affect the global streaming window.

Context

Shangri-La Frontier follows Rakurō, a “trash-game” hunter who dives into the highest-rated VRMMO on the market to conquer challenges that 30 million players have yet to beat. Season 1 premiered in October 2023, followed by Season 2 in October 2024. Both aired in the same Sunday block and arrived on Crunchyroll simultaneously.
