Aspyr has confirmed Shadow of Mordor for Switch 2 alongside Shadow of War in the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle. The collection brings together the Game of the Year Edition and the Definitive Edition, launching digitally on September 30, 2026—marking the first time Monolith Productions' two open-world hits land on Nintendo hardware.
What happened?
The announcement dropped on Hobbit Day, September 22. Aside from the bundle, each title can be purchased separately. Until launch, pre-orders in the US offer a 50% discount: the bundle is priced at $34.99 (full price $69.99), Shadow of Mordor at $9.99 ($19.99), and Shadow of War at $24.99 ($49.99).
The editions include all previously released DLC. In Shadow of Mordor, you get the Lord of the Hunt and The Bright Lord campaigns, plus extra missions, runes, and skins. In Shadow of War, the package features the Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel expansions, alongside the Nemesis Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe packs.
On the US eShop, Shadow of War lists a file size of around 73 GB with touchscreen support. The file size for Shadow of Mordor was still a placeholder at the time of the announcement.
What does this mean?
The games are set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Players control Talion, a slain ranger resurrected and bound to the elfin spirit Celebrimbor. The standout feature is the Nemesis System: orcs that defeat the player or are defeated by them gain memories, hierarchy, and personality. Captains return stronger, hold grudges, or even follow the player if dominated.
Following the closure of Monolith Productions in 2025, the future of the franchise and the Nemesis System itself has remained uncertain. This port is not a new game, but it brings both complete campaigns to Nintendo's handheld for the very first time.
Why is this important?
For Switch 2 owners, this is the chance to play two acclaimed action-RPGs in handheld mode with all extra content included. For Middle-earth fans, the timing coincides with the 12th anniversary of Shadow of Mordor, which originally launched on September 30, 2014.
Aspyr is well-known for handling ports of Tomb Raider, Star Wars, and Legacy of Kain. Official performance metrics for the Switch 2 (such as target framerate or resolution) have not yet been detailed. The announcement trailer is available on Aspyr's YouTube channel.
