The first Sakura Wars launched on the Sega Saturn on September 27, 1996. Thirty years later SEGA and partners mark the date with new art, a limited pocket watch and a Japan exhibition.
What happened
Toei and Fulton Japan announced a pocket watch with Ichiro Ogami's Kohbu armor on the hunter case. Production is 2,026 units at 11,000 yen tax-in. Reservations open September 29. The dial evokes the Kohbu cockpit and lists numbered-entry dates.
In July SEGA published art by Hidenori Matsubara and Masashi Kudo and expanded sakura-taisen.com with history and character sections.
Exhibition
Dreams Return runs at Yurakucho Marui in Tokyo from October 31 to November 15, 2026, then Space Galleria KYOTO from December 4, 2026 to January 4, 2027.
Why it matters
The series mixed stage drama, romance and mechs. Matsubara publicly hoped every title would become playable on current hardware. There is no new mainline game announced for the jubilee.
