Quake Champions drops free-to-play and becomes a paid Steam exclusive

Quake Champions is leaving free-to-play eight years after launch. id Software turned the arena shooter into a paid Steam-only title, removed microtransactions and shut down the Microsoft Store version.

What patch 1.31 changes

According to the official FAQ on the Bethesda Slayers Club, new players pay $9.99 / £8.99. Anyone who already played on Steam was upgraded for free. Microsoft Store (Xbox on PC) players must link Bethesda.net to Steam by October 7, 2026 to claim the copy.

Patch 1.31 removes the battle pass, in-game store, paid currencies, loot boxes, login rewards and all microtransactions. The UI dropped free-to-play tabs. Servers were consolidated to improve matchmaking.

Refunds

Platinum bought within 60 days before September 23 is refunded automatically. Rankings stay on the same Bethesda.net account. The Microsoft Store build is gone.
