PS6 memory cost: leaker says RAM and NAND alone exceed $680

Hardware leaker KeplerL2 stated on a NeoGAF forum thread that the PS6 memory cost for RAM and NAND storage alone already exceeds $680 per console, excluding APU, cooling or other parts.

What happened?

The claim came in reply to a user suggesting Sony could subsidize the PS6 to launch around $680. KeplerL2, known for accurate prior AMD hardware predictions, responded directly: “RAM + NAND alone is over $680”.

In June, the same insider estimated the console’s full bill of materials was already approaching $1,000, up from an earlier figure of about $760. Sony has not confirmed any PS6 specs or pricing. Reports including from IT Home reinforce the estimate and highlight AI data center demand driving DRAM and NAND prices.

Why it matters

Sony Interactive Entertainment head Hideaki Nishino told investors the company does not intend to sell hardware at significant losses. With the PS6 memory cost alone above $680, the retail price could easily exceed $1,000 amid global component shortages. Analysts and leakers already point to a possible 2028 launch without disc support.
