The jailbroken PS5 runs physical PS3 discs. Homebrew developer Sword demonstrated the feature in a video on X, inserting a Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition disc into a jailbroken PS5 and reaching Sony's screen.
What happened on the PS5?
This comes just days after Sword released the PS5SX2 emulator for physical PS2 discs on the PS5. The new RPS5S3 project, based on RPCS3, adds experimental support for PS3 discs on the PS5. Still in testing, the emulator is not widely available for public download.
The jailbreak scene advances and allows the PS5 to run games from previous generations from physical media, a feature Sony does not offer completely officially.
Why the PS5 matters here
Owners of jailbroken PS5 (limited to certain firmware versions) can revive PS2 and PS3 libraries without digital dumps. Limitations include the internal drive not reading CDs and the experimental status of RPS5S3. Reports from OneJailbreak and Hardware Busters follow the PS5 progress, along with Sword's X posts.
