Precure Dual Shadow: spin-off with villains as heroines announced for 2027

Toei Animation announced on Monday (October 26, 2026) the new Precure spin-off titled Dual Shadow ~Precure Villain Heroines~. The original TV series, with completely new characters and plot, is scheduled to premiere in 2027 and centers on the concept of “villains.”

What happened?

Unlike previous spin-offs in the franchise, Dual Shadow does not reuse existing characters. The production features an original story and a darker visual style. The official teaser, released alongside the announcement, shows an unsettling atmosphere and the line “Because we are not Precure.”

The Precure franchise, which began in 2004 with Futari wa Pretty Cure, is known for magical girl stories that protect everyday life and strengthen bonds of friendship. Dual Shadow inverts this premise by focusing on heroines in villain roles.

The official website is already live and the teaser is available on the series’ official YouTube channel.

Why does this matter?

Precure is one of the longest-running and most successful anime franchises aimed at a young female audience. A spin-off with a villain theme and darker visuals represents a bold move by Toei to expand the universe and attract both longtime fans and new viewers.

What changes in practice?

Fans can expect a different approach from the classic transformation-and-friendship formula. The series is likely to explore conflict, morality and antagonistic characters more centrally. More details on cast, staff and exact premiere date are expected in the coming months.
