NVIDIA RTX 50 GPU Prices Surge in Japan: RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Hits $1,292

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series graphics card prices, including the RTX 5060 Ti, are surging in Japan, with mid-range models approaching or exceeding $1,000 and the RTX 5080 topping $2,400 in some Tokyo stores.

What happened?

A photo shared on Reddit by a user in a Tokyo store showed elevated prices for the RTX 50 lineup. According to reports from Wccftech and Tom's Hardware, the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, which launched at around 85,000 yen (approximately $530), is now found between 139,800 and 205,000 yen, or $881 to $1,292. That marks an increase of up to 144%.

The 8 GB RTX 5060 Ti rose about 59% to 63%, reaching roughly $749. The RTX 5070 ranges from $914 to $1,253, and the RTX 5080 goes from $1,864 to $2,444, a 48% to 94% rise from local launch prices.

Why it matters

Memory shortages and high demand for AI chips have pressured the consumer GPU market globally. In Japan the effect is more intense, with prices higher than in the United States. Earlier reports indicate RTX 5090 production was reduced or discontinued in favor of professional and data-center chips.

For gamers and enthusiasts this means harder access to current-generation cards, especially higher-VRAM models preferred for 1440p and 4K gaming with ray tracing and upscaling.

Context

Prices in Japan historically include taxes and are higher than the US market, but the recent jump is attributed to AI demand and NVIDIA's production reallocation. Sources: Wccftech, Tom's Hardware and a Reddit post on r/pcmasterrace.
