PlatinumGames says it has a strong desire to continue Bayonetta, without confirming a new game

PlatinumGames has talked about Bayonetta again without announcing a game. In an interview with Famitsu, studio head Atsushi Inaba said the team has a “strong desire” to develop the character and expand Bayonetta’s world, but he declined to confirm any project in progress.

“I can’t really answer that right now,” Inaba said, according to VGC’s report on the Famitsu conversation. “We have a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world. Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future.”

What happened?

The remark came in a joint interview with Shift Up’s Hyung-tae Kim promoting the Bayonetta crossover in Stellar Blade on Nintendo Switch 2. VGC notes that Platinum has not yet released its own game for the console, though Inaba called it a platform with “tremendous potential.”

The last series entry was the 2023 spin-off Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. Inaba did not confirm Bayonetta 4, a date, a platform, or a production stage. The comment is a signal of interest, not a development announcement.

Why it matters

The comment follows the departure of much of the original leadership. Series creator and Platinum co-founder Hideki Kamiya left and formed Clovers, where he is working on Okami 2. VGC also notes exits tied to Bayonetta 3 and Bayonetta Origins. The IP is not owned solely by Platinum: VGC describes a split between Sega and Nintendo that made the sequels Wii U and Switch exclusives.

Since those departures, Platinum has mostly taken work-for-hire projects, including Ninja Gaiden 4 with Team Ninja and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin with Paramount. Kamiya has previously said he expects the series to continue without him.

What is still unconfirmed

  • There is no Bayonetta 4 announcement, or any other new series game.
  • Inaba did not say whether Platinum is already developing one.
  • No console, publisher, or release window was named.

The signal is interest, not a commitment. The next concrete piece tied to the character, for now, is the Stellar Blade crossover on Switch 2.
