Planet Zoo 2 launches today with aquatic species, flying birds and wildlife reserves

Frontier Developments launched Planet Zoo 2 on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The zoo management simulator arrives as the sequel to the successful 2019 Planet Zoo and brings, for the first time in the series, fully aquatic species and flying birds.

The game places the player in the role of Conservation Coordinator for the Fauna and Ecosystems Network (FEN). In addition to building and managing zoos with detailed habitats, players can create Wildlife Reserves — customizable natural reserves where animals can be released and observed in environments closer to the wild.

Main new features

Planet Zoo 2 features over 130 animals, including aquariums with colorful fish, sharks and turtles, and aviaries for birds. Frontier highlights a generational leap in animation, authentic behaviors, fur, feather and scale textures. The first-person camera mode allows zookeepers to explore habitats up close.

The Planet Hub centralizes the player's conservation network, allowing animal trading, participation in community goals and tracking of global progress. Career, Franchise and Sandbox modes are available from launch.

The Standard edition costs about $49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99. The Deluxe, for about $64.99, adds six extra species and exclusive signage. Physical editions for consoles arrive on October 20.

The official announcement and launch confirm Frontier's commitment to detailed simulations and a focus on conservation, expanding the formula that won over players in the first title.
