The September 9, 2026 Nintendo Direct confirmed what many JRPG fans were hoping for: Persona 6 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. In the same segment, Atlus revealed that the Persona 4 Revival remake is also heading to Nintendo's next-gen console — complete with a confirmed release date.

What happened?
Following the special 40th-anniversary The Legend of Zelda Direct, the bonus September 9 Nintendo Direct dedicated a block to the Persona series. First up was Persona 4 Revival, a remake of Persona 4 Golden, slated for May 20, 2027, on the Switch 2. Immediately after, a short teaser confirmed that Persona 6 is also launching on the new hardware.
The announcement was reinforced by Nintendo of Europe's official account, which described the game as "an entirely new story" on the Switch 2. Industry outlets such as Gematsu, Game Informer, and Siliconera covered the announcements the same day.
What does this mean?
Persona 6 was originally unveiled in June 2026 during the Xbox Games Showcase for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The big news from the Direct isn't the game's existence, but its presence on the Switch 2 — something that, just a generation ago, seemed unlikely for mainline entries in the franchise.
As for Persona 4 Revival, the launch window is clearer. The remake debuts on February 18, 2027, for PS5, Xbox, and PC. It arrives on the Switch 2 roughly three months later, on May 20, 2027. This follows the standard port window Atlus has used for recent franchise releases.
What it doesn't mean yet
There is still no release date for Persona 6 on any platform. The Direct teaser recycled the green visual identity and the tagline "Who are you?" without showing any new gameplay. Reports regarding a Steam achievement leak circulated around the same time, but Atlus has yet to confirm story details, cast members, or a release window.
It has also not been officially stated whether the Switch 2 will receive Persona 6 on a day-and-date parity with other platforms.
Why does this matter?
The Persona series gained massive traction outside of Japan primarily on PlayStation. Seeing the next mainline installment and the remake of one of the franchise's most beloved entries land on the Switch 2 broadens its audience and solidifies the console as a premier destination for major JRPGs, extending far beyond Nintendo exclusives.
For handheld gamers, the pairing makes total sense: Persona is a massive, dozens-of-hours-long experience built around school calendars, social bonds, and turn-based combat. Playing it on the bus or from the couch is a huge part of the appeal.
The bottom line
If you own a Switch 2 and want the Inaba remake, mark your calendar for May 2027. If you're eyeing Persona 6, the takeaway for now is simple: the game is officially in the pipeline for the console. It's best to wait for a proper trailer — and take leaks with a grain of salt until Atlus speaks out.
