Order of the Sinking Star by Jonathan Blow Arrives on Switch 2, PS5 and PC After 10 Years of Development

What happened?

Thekla, led by Jonathan Blow (creator of Braid and The Witness), released Order of the Sinking Star on October 8, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The game, published by Arc Games, is a narrative puzzle adventure with more than 1,000 interconnected handcrafted puzzles.

Developed over a decade since the release of The Witness, the title promises hundreds of hours of gameplay and was created using the Jai programming language developed in-house by Blow.

Why does this matter?

Jonathan Blow is an iconic figure in independent game design, known for challenging conventions with innovative mechanics. Order of the Sinking Star brings together contributors from other renowned puzzle games and offers four distinct worlds whose mechanics combine in unexpected ways. A demo during Steam Next Fest was one of the most played of the event, and progress carries over to the full version.

The voice cast includes names such as Emily O’Brien, Liam O’Brien and Darin De Paul, plus an appearance by Blow himself.

What changes in practice?

Available for $29.99, the game is ideal for those seeking dense and intellectually challenging experiences on the portable Switch 2 or consoles. Bundles with Mewgenics and Animal Well are available on Steam. For fans of puzzle adventures and Blow's work, this is the most anticipated return of the decade in the genre.
