OpenAI has begun rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 and its smaller GPT-Live-1.1 Quip version for ChatGPT Voice, Codex, and dots. The update, announced on October 15, 2026, brings 13 new voices and a considerable improvement in performance across several non-English languages.
What changed
According to the official announcement in the OpenAI Developer Community and posts from the team on X, GPT-Live-1.1 delivers more natural accents in French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and other languages. Task delegation to reasoning models also became smoother, and the amount of “checking” messages during waiting decreased.
The model keeps the full-duplex architecture of the original GPT-Live, launched in July 2026: it listens and responds at the same time and handles pauses and interruptions more naturally. GPT-Live-1.1 becomes the default for Plus and higher users; Quip is for the rest. API access is still coming soon.
Why it matters
Voice conversations with AI remain one of ChatGPT’s most popular uses. Better accents and fluidity reduce friction for users in other languages and make the experience closer to a real conversation. OpenAI says continuous improvements to voice models will become the norm.
