OpenAI doubles usage limits on Pro plans after user feedback

OpenAI announced on October 29, 2026 that it is doubling usage limits for all Pro plans (100, 200 and 500) and Business Premium. The company also canceled the planned reduction of Pro 200 limits that was set to take effect the next day.

What happened?

The announcement came from Tibo of the OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT team in an X post: “We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today. We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200, so your Work and Codex usage will stay the same.”

The company kept extended limits for Dots (personal assistants) separate from default usage. The decision reverses part of the changes announced at DevDay in September, when Pro 200’s usage multiplier was reduced from 20x to 10x the Plus plan for new subscribers.

Why it matters

The change reflects intense competition in the AI market, especially with Anthropic. Pro plan users, who rely heavily on the tools for work and coding, pushed for more capacity. OpenAI committed to continuing to improve model efficiency to increase effective usage over time.
