Octopath Traveler Switch 2 is in stores. Square Enix confirmed on October 1, 2026 that Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II launched on the console with resolution and frame rate optimized for the new hardware.
This is not a remake. It is the same HD-2D RPG — pixel art over 3D scenery, turn-based combat, and eight independent stories — running with more graphical headroom. The first game is set in Orsterra; the second, in Solistia, with its own cast. The two can be bought separately or as a digital bundle.
What does not come with it
Nintendo's store page spells out three limits. The game runs only on Switch 2, not on the original Switch. A save from one version does not open on the other. And there is no upgrade path: owning the Switch version does not convert the copy.
In the West, each title launched at US$59.99, digitally and as a physical game-key card. The two-game bundle is digital only. In Japan, the Switch 2 versions were already listed before the Western window, at 5,478 yen each and 6,820 yen for the bundle, according to Gematsu's coverage at the time of the July announcement.
GOG joins the route on October 8
Square Enix also set the GOG debut of both games for October 8. From midnight Pacific Time that day until midnight on October 18, Octopath Traveler is 70% off and Octopath Traveler II is 60% off. It is the first time the series appears on that store.
The series, tied to Team Asano and developed with Acquire, already existed on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. The Switch 2 version was announced on July 13, 2026, on the franchise's eighth anniversary. What changed now is the effective Western launch, not the existence of the project.
The launch trailer is on Square Enix's channel: Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II on Switch 2.
