Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake: previews highlight modern visuals and jump

What happened?

The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake impressed in the first hands-on previews published by international media. The game, previously announced for a November 5, 2026 exclusive launch on Switch 2, received demo sessions where journalists played sections of Kokiri Forest, Great Deku Tree, Hyrule Field, Castle Town and Forest Temple.

Previews (The Verge, Nintendo Life, Polygon, Game Informer and others, October 14) describe a full remake, not a simple upscale of the 3DS version. Environments were rebuilt with more texture, lighting and material detail; cutscenes are fully voiced with expanded dialogue; music is orchestral; and controls include a dedicated jump button, free camera and Threads of Time menu to guide progress.

Why does this matter?

Ocarina of Time (1998) is one of the most influential games in history, pioneering explorable 3D worlds and mechanics that defined the genre. The Switch 2 remake aims to balance fidelity to the original with modern comforts inspired by Breath of the Wild, making it accessible to new players without losing its classic identity. Previews praise control responsiveness and visual immersion, with some noting surprisingly tense moments.

As a Switch 2 exclusive shortly before GTA VI, it positions itself as a November highlight for owners of Nintendo's new console.

What changes in practice?

Players will be able to relive Link's adventure with current visuals, voice acting, manual jump and features like Zelda Notes in the Switch app and amiibo support. Announced prices: $59.99 digital and $69.99 physical. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console arrives October 29. If impressions hold in the final game, it will be the definitive version of the classic.
