Ocarina of Time Switch 2: remake arrives November 5 with overhauled visuals and modern controls

Ocarina of Time Switch 2 arrives on November 5, 2026. Nintendo released a new overview trailer and details for the remake of the 1998 The Legend of Zelda classic, exclusive to the new-generation hybrid console.

What happened?

The remake features completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and a symphonic orchestral soundtrack. Controls have been modernized with a dedicated jump button, roll dash, improved camera and an item equippable to ZR.

New additions include the Hall of Fallen Foes (or Hall of Fallen Heroes), where players can view statues of defeated enemies and rematch them. Integration with Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch app allows maps, quests and playing the ocarina via the console microphone. The game even recognizes an optional physical ocarina.

Why does this matter?

Ocarina of Time is one of the most influential games in history, pioneering 3D, open exploration and mechanics that defined the genre. The remake aims to make the experience accessible to those who discovered Zelda through Breath of the Wild while preserving the essence of the original.

Previews from outlets like The Verge and Polygon note that the game feels modern and, at times, even more tense and immersive, with time passing in Castle Town and improved progression.

What changes in practice?

The game will be available digitally for $59.99 and physically for $69.99 (with a limited textured foil special edition). Estimated size is 27 GB. It supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes, amiibo and Switch 2 features such as VRR and HDR.

For fans, it is a chance to revisit Hyrule with contemporary polish. New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo arrive in 2027. Official source: Nintendo page and overview trailer.
