Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on October 23, 2026, that a new anime project based on the Ghost in the Shell (Kōkaku Kidōtai) franchise has entered production. Animation will once again be handled by Science SARU studio.
What was announced?
The announcement was made during the press preview of the OPEN HOUSE event at Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo, linked to a "Geeks Rule" fashion collaboration. A teaser visual for the new project was distributed. The format (series, film, or other) has not yet been specified, and more details will be released through Bandai Namco Filmworks' official channels.
Science SARU was responsible for the TV series THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, which premiered in July 2026 and ran for 10 episodes. The franchise includes the classic 1995 film by Mamoru Oshii, subsequent adaptations, and the recent Science SARU series. The new project represents the continued interest in the universe of Motoko Kusanagi and the Major.
