Nintendo Switch 2 surpasses 26 million units sold

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 has sold 26.35 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2026. The figure comes from the company's first-half fiscal year financial report.

What happened?

From April to September 2026, Nintendo sold 6.49 million Switch 2 consoles. That is a 37.4% drop from the 10.36 million sold in the same period the previous year, when the system was at the peak of its launch. The original Switch stands at 157.20 million lifetime units.

Software performed better. Switch 2 games sold 24.49 million units in the half-year, up 18.8%. Highlights include Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (8.81 million) and Rhythm Heaven Groove (2.89 million). Mario Kart World leads with roughly 16.48 million.

Why does this matter?

The slowdown was expected. Switch 2's first year was exceptional, with plentiful stock and strong demand. Price increases and the natural post-launch decline explain the drop. Even so, the console is still outpacing the original Switch and PS5 at the equivalent point after launch.

What changes in practice?

Nintendo's forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027 remains 16.5 million Switch 2 units. Future major releases such as new Zelda, Mario and Pokémon titles should boost both hardware and software sales. The original Switch continues to sell strongly in software, with over 65 million games in the half-year.
