CONFIRMED: Nintendo is not currently considering another price increase for the Switch 2. The statement was made by company president Shuntaro Furukawa at the earnings briefing on 5 November 2026, according to Reuters.
Furukawa said Nintendo has secured enough memory to meet its sales forecast, even amid the global memory-chip shortage driven by demand from AI data centres. The price in the United States remains around US$499.99, after rising from US$449.99 on 1 September 2026. In Japan, the domestic model had already risen by 10,000 yen, to 59,980 yen, in May.
Half-year results and unchanged forecast
The announcement came with the half-year results: Nintendo's operating profit fell 16%, to 73.9 billion yen (about US$467 million) in the quarter ended 30 September, and Switch 2 sales were down 37% year on year after the strong launch quarter. The forecast for the fiscal year ending in March 2027 was kept at 16.5 million units, and lifetime sales of the console have already passed 26 million.
No price freeze
The caveat matters: Furukawa said the company is not considering a price change “at the moment”, which is not a price freeze. If the memory shortage keeps pressuring costs into 2027, the issue may return — but for now, anyone planning to buy a Switch 2 should not expect another increase soon.
