Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Confirms Khezu at TGS 2026

Capcom's stage at Tokyo Game Show 2026 delivered a spoiler the crowd wanted even more than the new monsters: the Khezu (known as Fulful in Japan) is back in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance.

The confirmation dropped during the special presentation this Saturday, September 19, featuring the expansion's first live developer build demo. Japanese outlets like Famitsu, AUTOMATON, and 4Gamer reported the exact moment: Director Takuro Hiraoka was hunting the new Arakata monster in the Kumoi Ruins when a pale neck emerged from a wall crevice to unleash an electric breath attack.

What Happened?

The presentation showcased the new floating area of the Kumoi Ruins (Skybound Eyrie) and the pack behavior of the Arakata, a social monster led by an alpha commanding two others. Midway through the fight, the Khezu crashed the scene. Capcom then pivoted the presentation to a direct showdown against the classic beast.

In the footage, the monster stretches its neck further than in previous generations, grips cave ceilings, fires electric bolts through wall holes, and attempts to swallow the hunter whole. Both Famitsu and AUTOMATON noted that this specific reveal drew the loudest reaction from the Makuhari Messe crowd—outshining even the Boost Bracer or the Arakata itself.

Who Is the Khezu?

The Khezu is a wyvern dubbed the \"strange dragon.\" Inhabiting cold, dark caves, it has evolved without eyes and relies on a specialized electric organ. Its last main-series appearance was in Monster Hunter Rise and its Sunbreak expansion, though it was absent from the initial Wilds launch roster.

What Does This Mean?

Ascendance is the massive expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, slated for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2. Set a few years after the base game, the story revolves around Madoi Keep and sky ruins. Along with the Khezu, Capcom has confirmed Master Rank, the Boost Bracer accessory (which grants temporary extra attacks), Teostra, Kushala Daora, Lao-Shan Lung, and a brand-new elder dragon named Gundoraja.

In practice, the Khezu's return signals two things. First, the expansion will bring back fan-favorite legacy monsters with completely revamped animations alongside fresh creatures. Second, verticality, caves, and ceilings are now fully integrated into combat design rather than serving as mere background scenery.

What We Don't Know Yet

Capcom has yet to announce an exact 2027 release date, a full monster roster, or confirmation of any Khezu subspecies or variants. It remains unconfirmed whether the monster will be locked exclusively behind Master Rank.

To play the expansion, players will need the base game and must complete the 7★ quest \"Awakening from a Dream.\" The official expansion website is live at monsterhunter.com/wilds-ascendance.
