Modern Warfare 4 debuts Server Culling to cut wallhacks at the source

On October 2, 2026, Activision introduced Server Culling, a system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 built to weaken wallhacks. Instead of only detecting the program after it has already read enemy positions, the server withholds that data when the player would have no way to see the opponent.

What happened?

The announcement came in an official video on the Call of Duty channel and a post from @CallofDuty. The developer’s explanation is direct: wallhacks work because the game client receives location data the average player never sees. The cheat reads that packet and marks enemies through walls.

In Modern Warfare 4, every launch map gets occlusion layers. A wall or building is no longer only scenery: if there is no line of sight, the opponent’s position does not reach the client. The video puts it this way: a wall can do more than block your view; it also stops an opponent’s location data from reaching the game until that opponent comes into view.

Where it applies

  • Every map available at the launch of Modern Warfare 4.
  • DMZ and Combat Outpost.
  • New maps from Season 1 onward, in multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone.

Activision says players who are not cheating should notice no visual or gameplay difference. The system is built into map objects, not applied as a filter after the match.

Why it matters

Wallhacks are hard to fight only on the client, because the data has often already been sent. Server Culling tries to change the logic: cheat software cannot reveal information it never receives. Activision treats the feature as another layer, not the end of the problem. In the video, the studio says it expects to disturb the cheat marketplace, while continuing to strengthen the rest of its anti-cheat technology.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, including on Nintendo Switch 2, according to Nintendo UK’s calendar. The video does not say whether Server Culling behaves the same on every platform. There is also no public figure for fewer bans or blocked cheats: the effect is still a developer expectation, not a measured result.
