The DLSS AMD Radeon ecosystem takes a major step with version 0.8.0 of the DLSS-NR-on-AMD project, released by developer Daniel Blanco (danielblnc). The experimental mod now allows nearly the entire modern NVIDIA DLSS feature set to run on AMD Radeon GPUs based on RDNA 3 (RX 7000) and RDNA 4 (RX 9000) architectures.
What the mod now offers
The project, which started focused on bringing DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to AMD hardware, has expanded to include the full DLSS AMD Radeon package:
- DLSS Super Resolution (including 4.5 models)
- DLSS Ray Reconstruction (new in 0.8.0, with native Model F implementation)
- DLSS Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation up to 4x
- DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, with performance improvements (up to 25% on RDNA 3)
The mod uses custom HIP kernels and DirectX 12 integration rather than a simple translation layer. Users must supply their own NVIDIA DLL files, as the project does not distribute proprietary binaries. The NeuralHub tool simplifies installation and configuration via an in-game overlay. This makes DLSS AMD Radeon more accessible for red team GPU owners.
Performance and limitations
Initial community results on DLSS AMD Radeon vary. In Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing at 1440p on an RX 9070 XT, some report zero performance loss with Ray Reconstruction enabled, while others see drops of up to 25%. Neural Rendering reaches about 90-100 FPS at 1080p on the same GPU according to the developer, with the goal of rivaling an RTX 5070 Ti.
It works in DirectX 12 games on Windows 11 that use FSR, DLSS or XeSS. Requires a recent Adrenalin driver. RDNA 2 support is experimental (mainly Neural Rendering). It does not work in anti-cheat games and visual quality/performance can vary. It is an unofficial and experimental project, but represents an important step for the graphics mod ecosystem.
