Microsoft and Nvidia take the stage on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, in San Francisco to present the Surface Laptop Ultra, a laptop built around the RTX Spark chips announced in June. Reuters reported that Satya Nadella and Jensen Huang will introduce the machine, designed to run AI agents on Windows itself without relying on the cloud all the time.
What happens today
The event, described by Microsoft as a conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC, starts at 10 a.m. Pacific, which is 2 p.m. in Brasília. Alongside Nadella and Huang, the lineup includes Pavan Davuluri, executive vice president of Windows and Devices. It is the company’s first major Windows stage since the Copilot+ PC event in May 2024.
What is already known about the hardware
Microsoft had already shown the Surface Laptop Ultra as the first Surface laptop to combine an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 128 GB of unified memory and full CUDA support. The company has also tied the platform to up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and the ability to run models of about 120 billion parameters on the device. Windows Central, citing sources, described two RTX Spark configurations that have not been officially confirmed at the event: one with an 18-core CPU and 5,120 GPU cores, and another with a 20-core CPU and 6,144 GPU cores. IT Home echoed those specs on Wednesday morning.
Why price is the open question
Reuters says the biggest unanswered point is price, after the memory surge. Nvidia recently raised the DGX Spark AI desktop by about 75% to $6,950, in part because of its 128 GB of memory. Anshel Sag of Moor Insights & Strategy told Reuters that two years ago the software was not ready and the hardware was; now the software is ready and the hardware is too expensive for many people to run AI locally. Makers such as Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI are also preparing Windows PCs with RTX Spark for this autumn, according to Nvidia. Leaked prices for other laptops do not set the Surface’s price.
