Meccha Chameleon Sells 100K Copies on Nintendo Switch 2 Day One

Meccha Chameleon has arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2 and immediately smashed expectations with 100,000 copies sold on day one. Developer LEMORION confirmed the milestone this Friday (11) on X. In Japanese, the game is known as めっちゃカメレオン.

The news was originally reported by ITmedia NEWS and 4Gamer. The Switch 2 version launched on the eShop on September 10, 2026, priced at 790 yen, with a 20% launch discount running until September 17 (632 yen).

What is Meccha Chameleon

The game offers a multiplayer hide-and-seek concept. You play as a white mannequin, painting your own body to camouflage into the environment—whether that is a sofa, wall, plant, or refrigerator. The hiding team tries to survive the timer, while the seekers must track everyone down.

Simply crouching behind an object is not enough; the pattern on your body has to fool your opponent's eyes. This is why Meccha Chameleon went viral during live streams, as audiences watched players seamlessly transform into vases, paintings, or pieces of the floor.

What Happened on PC

Meccha Chameleon launched on Steam on June 10, 2026. Within 16 days, it surpassed 10 million copies. In roughly two months, it crossed the 20 million mark. Developed by just two people—LEMORION and Haganeiro—using Unreal Engine without a major publisher, the official page can be found at store.steampowered.com/app/4704690.

Why the Switch 2 Numbers Matter

One hundred thousand units on day one does not rival the massive PC volume. However, for a low-cost indie title, it is a rare feat, proving the phenomenon has successfully crossed over to Nintendo's storefront right at console launch.

The Switch 2 version features cross-play with PC and supports touchscreen and mouse controls. In an interview with Game*Spark, LEMORION revealed they chose the Switch 2 because it is a console with native mouse support—which is crucial for precise body painting. Dates for other platforms have not yet been announced.

In Practice

Players who already own Meccha Chameleon on Steam can play with friends on the Switch 2 on the same servers. The eShop discount in Japan runs until September 17. With Tokyo Game Show 2026 kicking off soon, the title is bound to stay in the spotlight.
