Mashle: Magic and Muscles Live-Action Film Casts Mackenyu as Mash, Directed by Yuichi Fukuda, Out March 2027

Hajime Komoto's manga Mashle: Magic and Muscles is getting a live-action adaptation. The film is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on March 19, 2027, starring Mackenyu as Mash Burnedead and directed by Yuichi Fukuda.

What happened?

Warner Bros. and Fuji TV oversee the project, produced by CREDEUS and distributed by Toho. Fukuda, known for adaptations like Gintama, offered the role to Mackenyu seconds after securing adaptation rights. Mackenyu, who plays Zoro in Netflix's live-action One Piece, said he prepared physically for about three years for the role.

Why it matters

The manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2020 to 2023, follows Mash, a magic-less young man who relies on extreme physical strength in a world where magic determines social status. The anime's third season is set for January 2027, shortly before the film.

A teaser visual and trailer have been released, showing Mackenyu with Mash's signature facial mark and Easton Magic Academy uniform.
