Marvel's Wolverine Goes Gold: Insomniac Confirms September 15 Release Date

Marvel's Wolverine has reached "gold" status this week, according to an announcement by Insomniac Games—meaning development is complete and the game is now ready for manufacturing and distribution. The milestone arrives roughly three weeks ahead of its official launch date, locked in for September 15. The studio celebrated the news on social media with an image of Logan unsheathing his claws in a golden hue.

A More Linear and Brutal Wolverine

Unlike the open-world structure used in the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise, Marvel's Wolverine adopts a more linear format. The tone is considerably darker, and the combat system is described as much more brutal, fitting the character's fierce reputation. According to einerd, players will be able to unlock and equip "Golden Claws" during the campaign, a direct nod to the game's gold status milestone.

Back to Team X

The story follows Logan's return to Team X after the villain Bolivar Trask begins abducting mutants. To rescue the captives, Wolverine reunites with his old squad, taking players through environments ranging from Canada to Japan, including the fictional island of Madripoor. Jean Grey and Sabretooth appear as key figures throughout the campaign, promising plenty of tension between Logan's past and present.

A Great Sign for Launch

Reaching gold status nearly a month in advance is typically viewed by the industry as a sign of technical stability, minimizing the chances of critical day-one issues. It is a release that fans of Marvel superhero games will be watching closely, especially following the warm reception of Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man franchise. Marvel's Wolverine arrives on September 15 for PlayStation 5.
