2K and Hangar 13 have released a major update for Mafia III Definitive Edition to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary, originally launched on October 7, 2016. The main highlight is native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S supporting 60 frames per second, making the experience smoother on current hardware.
What changes in practice with Mafia III Definitive Edition?
The new console versions run gameplay at 60 FPS, with most real-time cutscenes also at that rate. Some pre-rendered cinematics remain at 30 FPS. There are also improvements in textures, lighting, vegetation streaming, and overall stability, reducing pop-in and visual artifacts.
On PC via Steam, the update brings essential quality-of-life fixes: smoother progression in missions like “Get Enzo Conti,” “Kill Tommy Marcano,” and the Epilogue; better NPC and companion behavior that previously blocked progress; more accurate achievement tracking; and FPS limit options (120, 144, 180, and 240), plus improved multi-monitor support and windowed mode.
Who gets the Mafia III Definitive Edition update for free?
Owners of the Definitive Edition on PS4 (physical or digital) and digital Xbox One versions can upgrade for free to current platforms. The game includes the main campaign and expansions Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times. This is part of 2K's ongoing efforts to modernize the Mafia: The Omertà Collection.
