Lisa Su Proposed Bringing Back the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a Final Gift for AM4 Owners

AMD CEO Lisa Su was among the people who proposed bringing back the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a 10th anniversary edition of the AM4 platform, according to Travis Kirsch, the company’s senior director of client product management.

What happened?

In an interview with Mynavi TECH+ published around October 20, 2026, Kirsch explained that original production of the processor had ended and the idea to revive it arose years earlier. He described the anniversary edition, launched in June 2026, as a “final gift” to loyal users who had used AM4 for nearly a decade and wanted one last chance to upgrade using DDR4 memory.

Kirsch emphasized that the plan preceded memory market changes and was not a response to DDR5 shortages or price increases. Restarting production lines required time and additional engineering.

Why it matters

Millions of AM4 systems still run on DDR4. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition offers a drop-in 3D V-Cache upgrade for gaming, keeping users in the AMD ecosystem instead of forcing an expensive platform switch right now. It is the fastest gaming processor for the nearly 10-year-old socket.

What changes in practice

Owners of AM4 motherboards can consider this CPU as a last significant update without changing platforms. The edition includes a Carbice carbon-nanotube thermal pad. Sources: Travis Kirsch interview with Mynavi TECH+ and reports from Tom’s Hardware, PC Gamer and Wccftech.
