LG CNS announced on 2 November the completion of a 30 MW AI data center in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the company, it is the first case of a South Korean company directly building an AI data center overseas for a foreign client.
The project was commissioned by KMG, a joint venture between Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Estate Management. LG CNS says it had already secured customers for the facility's full capacity before completion, giving the project a revenue base from the start of operations.
The facility was designed for high-performance computing with next-generation GPUs. To handle the heat of AI servers, it uses a hybrid cooling structure: air cooling in the first phase and liquid cooling in later phases, directly controlling heat generated by GPUs. The power system supports more than 300 kW per rack — about 60 times the consumption of a typical data center rack, according to the company — with duplicated power supply for continuous operation.
The first phase spans 11 floors and 46,281 square meters, with room for more than 100,000 servers, according to earlier reporting on the project. LG CNS also applied its 'One LG' approach, integrating technologies from group affiliates such as LG Electronics air-conditioning systems and LG Energy Solution batteries into a single power, cooling and energy infrastructure.
The company is already designing the next phases and says total capacity could reach 400 MW once they are complete. From Jakarta, LG CNS plans to expand its AI data center business across Asia-Pacific, with Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan among the target markets.
“The completion of the AI data center in Indonesia is a result that demonstrates our business competitiveness in the global market,” LG CNS president Hyun Shin-kyun said, according to MoneyToday. He said the company will use the project as a foothold to expand its AI data center and 'AI factory' businesses in Asia-Pacific and beyond.
