NVIDIA has shown an early look at Left 4 Dead RTX, a free community mod that uses the RTX Remix platform to visually modernize Valve's classic co-op zombie shooter.
Developed by NoMercyStudios and published by NightSightProductions, the project promises full path tracing, hand-crafted physically based (PBR) textures, high-poly models and support for technologies like DLSS 4.5 with Multi Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction and RTX Neural Radiance Cache (NRC).
The announcement trailer was captured on a GeForce RTX 5090 at 4K max settings with path tracing and DLSS 4.5. Developers note that the footage is not yet representative of the final product.
What the mod offers
- Path tracing for more realistic lighting that simulates light behavior
- New PBR textures and updated models
- Support for DLSS 4.5, Ray Reconstruction and Multi Frame Generation
- Reflex to reduce latency
The name "Left 4 Dead RTX" refers to the series as a whole, but the mod specifically updates Left 4 Dead 2 (2009). It will be released for free on Steam; players need a copy of the base game, but do not need to have it installed.
There is still no release date. The team is recruiting developers and considering playtests. NVIDIA described the reveal as a call to the community to help finish the project.
The highlight came in the weekly GeForce roundup on October 21, 2026, with official posts on X from NVIDIA GeForce and NightSightProductions.
