On October 1, 2026, Amazon introduced the Kindle 2026 family, rebuilt from the ground up. Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft get a flush display, without the raised bezel that broke the page, and edge-to-edge color on the body.
The Kindle 2026 post is by Kevin Keith, vice president of Devices, on the company’s official blog. The core change is a reverse-stack display construction — a first for the e-reader category, Amazon says. Display, front light, and touch layer are assembled and bonded differently to cut thickness.
What changed on Kindle 2026
The new 6-inch Kindle is described as the most pocket-sized in the line. It has 16 GB, up to six weeks of battery, and book opening 30% faster than the previous generation. Kindle 2026 starts at $149.99, in Ube (a purple) and Graphite. The housing uses recycled materials and the battery uses 100% recycled cobalt.
For the first time there is an aluminum-back version, in the same pocket form and with the same flush front. The piece is 80% recycled aluminum, with a matte finish, 32 GB, and a $189.99 price, in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green.
The chosen color now wraps the device from front to back. Besides Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, and Graphite, the line brings Fig to e-readers for the first time.
Paperwhite and Colorsoft
In the Kindle 2026 lineup, Paperwhite is thinner and lighter, still waterproof, with adjustable warm light and up to 12 weeks of battery. The display uses an oxide thin-film transistor backplane and, Amazon says, is the largest Paperwhite yet, with the highest contrast ratio in the series. The 16 GB Graphite model starts at $199.99.
Signature Edition adds an aluminum back, 32 GB, auto front light, pogo-pin charging, and double-tap page turns. It costs $249.99, in Graphite and Seaglass Green.
Colorsoft keeps paper-like color reading without a tablet’s glare. Amazon cites nitride LEDs in the light guide, an oxide backplane, and micro-deflectors to even out brightness. The 16 GB Graphite model starts at $289.99. Signature, with 32 GB, aluminum, auto light, double tap, and a dock, is $319.99 in Graphite and Fig.
Accessories and where to buy
Also new: Kindle Click, a $34.99 Bluetooth page-turn remote compatible with the new models and Kindles from 2024 on; a magnetic cover with physical buttons at $79.99, Signature models only; a $59.99 charging dock; and covers from $39.99. Kids editions, with artist covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+, start at $179.99.
The base Kindle 2026 and the aluminum version are already on sale in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Australia. Paperwhite and Colorsoft go on preorder on a rolling basis in the same regions. Prices in local currency were not detailed in the announcement.
Amazon says Kindle has seen double-digit global growth for three straight years and that more than 720 billion pages were read in 2025 alone. The Kindle 2026 redesign is framed as a response to a habit that, the company says, is accelerating even as notifications and apps compete for attention.
