The sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits is no longer coming in 2026. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Ember Lab have delayed Kena: Scars of Kosmora to 2027 on PlayStation 5, in physical and digital editions, and on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The announcement landed on October 1 on the PlayStation Blog, signed by Ember Lab chief operating officer Josh Grier and writer Thomas Varga. The game was revealed in February during a State of Play with a 2026 release window. The studio says it needs more time to polish an adventure larger than its 2021 debut.
What changes on the calendar
There is no exact date inside 2027. The official post talks about pushing the release into 2027 so the team can deliver a game that exceeds the quality of Bridge of Spirits at a much bigger scale. Ember Lab describes Scars of Kosmora as a character-focused linear adventure with a broader world and room for players who leave the main path.
What Ember Lab shared about the story
Before the events of the game, Kena studied as a Spirit Guide, equal parts warrior and spiritual healer. When the dead cannot move on, manifestations of their pain infect the environment. Spirit Guides fight that Corruption to reach the cause.
Kena, the post says, is beginning to see her own limits: she has helped spirits of the dead, but has not yet explored what the role means for the living, or her own pain. Childhood friend Orfio believes the island of Kosmora holds answers. Kena sets out to meet him and learn more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide.
The ancient guides of Kosmora are said to have developed their own approach tied to the four elements and the Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived on the island, each with a guiding element, until a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. The spiritual symbolism of the elements faded, even as it still shapes how the surviving cultures live. The temples work as dungeons that test the player and reward powers that change the adventure.
The island is also home to living cultures, with their own histories and conflicts. To cross this larger map, Kena gains a mount: a crystalline canine companion, an ancient spirit tied to the island’s origin. It serves as a mount, helps in combat both mounted and on foot, and takes part in Alchemystic puzzles.
Why it matters
Bridge of Spirits, from 2021, was Ember Lab’s first game and became a reference point for an independent debut published by Sony, with an animated look and action combat. The delay pulls the sequel out of an already crowded end of year on PS5 and PC and leaves the launch without a confirmed month. What the studio delivered now is world context, not a closed new window.
